A Collected Interview Feature: UrbanoOutfitters

Anthony Urbano was born and raised in New Jersey. He currently works as a structural designer in NYC with a degree in Civil Engineering. Dustin Tyler Moore was born in Northern California and moved to New York City where he attended the American Musical Dramatic Academy. He currently spends his time walking dogs in NYC, writing and recording music, and auditioning for shows. Together, Anthony & Dustin, moved into their first home just outside of Manhattan in Jersey City. Having to share one tiny closet inspired them to create Urbano Outfitters/Closet Freaks - a blog about how this couple shares a closet full of clothes and a love of fashion.

ACG-What’s your definition of Style?
Both (Dustony): Our definition of style is the way you present yourself and the choices you make in all aspects including what you wear and how you wear it, what you say and how you say it, what you do and how you do it. It’s all those things - your own personal swagger. A person’s style is a true reflection of who they are and their tastes in life.
ACG-What inspired your Style?
Anthony: Years of private school education, my untamed OCD, and also the need to be rebellious at times inspired my style - I like things clean cut and neat but with the occasional surprise thrown in the mix.
Dustin: My style was inspired very much by my mom. She was a cosmetologist and I remember her combing my hair in a big wave when I was young. I was obsessed with the 50’s. I loved the music and the way they dressed and how handsome the men looked. Those images still live on today. The rolled up white t-shirts, blue jeans, slick hair, sneakers. There’s a certain amount of imperfect perfection that I really gravitate towards.
ACG-The do’s and don’t’s of Style/Fashion?
Both (Dustony): Do wear clothes that reflect your style and are comfortable (but only if they’re the proper fit). Don’t follow trends or wear things that aren’t “you.” And for the millionth time, please don’t wear square-toed shoes.
ACG-How does your style of dress reflect who you are to people?
Anthony: My day to day is pretty much preppy, a little urban, but always put together. It think people see me as well dressed and intelligent because of that. The fact that I’m Asian, wear glasses, and have a technical job probably back that up as well ;)
Dustin: If you mean how people see me I’d have to say I’m not sure. I would have to be able to see myself form another’s eyes. But as far as how I want to be seen…I’d like to come off put together, classic, with a touch of trendiness added to the mix.
ACG-What’s one thing you would take out of Fashion World and one thing you would add?
Dustony: Ed Hardy (sorry Jersey) and anything bedazzled, bejeweled, or be-whatever-shiny-thing-you-want-to-add to a t-shirt - Everything Must Go. Add? This is tough and we’re really not experts. More sales?
ACG-Tips for up and coming Fashion/Style bloggers?
Dustony: Definitely be unique and have your own concept to set yourself apart from other blogs. Showcase your personal style with your posts by carefully curating content and by writing in a voice that is your own. Oh, and be nice to your followers. Answer questions. Don’t pretend to be anyone other than yourself.
ACG-What’s going to be big for the Spring/Summer seasons?
for spring we’d say bright colored blazers and pants. still not sure what we predict for summer yet.
ACG-What’s your dream job?
Dustin: Hands down, a recording artist. I’d like to write and sing my own music and work with some great producers.
Anthony: Interior architect/interior designer. I love the challenge of laying out spaces and the fun of spending other people’s money to shop.
ACG-All time favorite item clothing or shoe?
Anthony: Suede desert boots. I’ve been buying them since high school and they’re the only pair of shoes I wear year after year and year round.
Dustin: White t-shirt. It’s an essential item. You can wear it own its own in the summer, under a leather jacket for wall, or even just to bed. Simple, classic, easy.
ACG-Who’s your style icon and why?
Dustony: We don’t really have style icons. We appreciate anyone with good style. People on the streets, tv, the internet. These people are where we draw inspiration for our own looks.
