A Collected Style Interview Feature: Marcelous R. Daniel
My name is Marcelous R. Daniel, 26, Fashion Stylist/Designer for the Yearbook Club. I was born and raised in Chicago, IL. I am an advocate of higher education, but have learned more from my local library than any professor could teach me at my college during my enrollment. My loves are Fashion, Music, Basketball, Movies, Pizza (you have no idea) the art of Boxing and I have a minor obsession with Ballerinas. Seriously…it’s minor. Lol

What inspired your Style?
The 40/50’s decade when everything was centered around school fashion. Cardigans, Letterman’s, Crewnecks, Backpacks, Tweed, Bowties…I mean life is all a learning experience so I dress for school everyday.
The do’s and don’t’s of Style/Fashion?
I only have one basic don’t… head to toe mannequin inspired outfits are totally unacceptable. Lol, I’ve never understood why people have this idea of taking something the masses do, put a minor twist on it and now you’re different. Then there’s the basic do, if you see something and it catches your eye…get it. Every outfit should have a centerpiece, and then you build around it.
How does your style of dress reflect who you are to people?
It’s a gift and a curse…I love clothes, but it’s what I do…not who I am. Whenever I have on my hoop shorts and a hoodie everybody looks at me different although I’m still the same guy. I hoop, I get dirty working on cars and around the house…but I can’t beat this “pretty boy” stigma. Lol
What’s one thing you would take out of Fashion World and one thing you
would add?
It sounds crazy but I wish people had no idea what designer they were buying and instead focused on the actual design of the clothes. But adding a few more patterns to the basics (houndstooth, pindot, plaid, etc.) would be pretty groovy. I don’t know, something creative yet minimal like the others.
Tips for up and coming Fashion/Style bloggers?
NETWORK…everyone knows another and you never know who you will run into. But with technology as advanced as it is, I’d say tap into all of those social markets and post plenty of photos. I’m learning to do this myself.
What’s going to be big this summer/fall season?
I feel that Red will be the dominant color this Fall along with a lot of pirate/military inspired pieces. Vivienne Westwood should spill over a lot more into the Western part of the world.
What’s your dream job?
This may sound weird, but I want to be the visual merchandising manger for between Barney’s nationwide. There are too many vices that come along with mainstream styling. I’m a simple dude, I don’t need to be rich…but I do want all aspects of my life to be comfortable for my wife and me.
All time favorite item clothing or shoe?
There are a pair of black/white Chuck Taylor’s I delivered mail in before I pursued fashion that I still wear.
Who’s your style icon and why?
Pharrell Williams is probably the greatest creative genius to me on all levels. So regardless of what it is that has influenced my expression there will always be portion of this guy. I idolized NERD in HS.
