We have to focus of bettering ourselves and inspiring people around us. We can’t get caught up in other peoples lives or what they think about us. Each and every one of us has a gift, whether that gift is sports, art or helping others. Don’t let that gift die. Nurture it until it’s ready to be used.  It’s time to reach deep inside and let out your dreams out, no matter the situation or circumstance. Don’t WAIT and don’t SETTLE. The time is NOW. Dreams are achieved through  sacrifice, perseverance, positivity, and most importantly time. Act NOW . Dream BIG. appreciate the little things until they turn into big things. I want to say I appreciate every single one of you. You guys inspire me every single day. Thank you for making this blog possibly and for reading my rants lol . BE YOU

A Collected Interview
Jillian Mercado of Manufactured 1987
Jillian is a fashion blogger living in New York City. She writes about fashion and writes for a few sites. Currently working for WeTheUrban Magazine
What inspired you to become a blogger?

It’s kinda funny story I used to work at allure magazine and at lunchtime would visit my friend at Sephora at lunch time at time square and there was this make up artist who would constantly tell me to do a blog. At the time I was following other bloggers and would never imagine me having or think that anyone wanted to follow me. I started it and then it’s been extremely amazing since.

What inspires your style?

Many different things inspiring me for example; people. I love to watch people and see how they style themselves and pick and choose things so when I dress I kinda have a little bit of everyone, also architecture and music is something that gives me a huge inspiration for my style.
How has NYC shaped the way you look at the world

Well I am truly blessed to have been born and raised in New York City because there’s so many different people in different cultures and it’s just extremely diverse. You have more of an open mind living in the city because of the diversity.

What tips do you have for people looking to do editorial and contributing  work for fashion websites and magazines?

Yes actually i do! I always tell this to people that it’s extremely important to intern as much as you can throughout school and go into  school clubs, make your own club, keep yourself active and especially for the fashion industry read magazines to know your stuff because it will help you in the long run.

How did it feel to be featured in ELLE magazine?

I’m honestly still in shock and it has not truly sunken in. I still can’t believe it’s in a real printed magazine especially elle because it’s so well-known, it’s the most amazing thing that has happened to me and I am truly blessed for that.

You and Wille(WeTheUrban) have a beautiful friendship. How did the both of you meet and how is it traveling and going to events with each other ?

He’s an amazing human being I love love going out with him, traveling with him and now working with him! I met Willie because I interviewed him for PMC magazine, I have always been a huge fan of him and WeTheUrban.

You’ve interned at Allure, how was that experience ?

There is many many things I would say about Allure, it was the most life-changing experience. they gave me the biggest gift and welcomed me into their team. They are an amazing group of people that are dedicated 100% to their jobs. Growing up I knew that I wanted a career that I would love and wake up every morning knowing that I had the greatest job in the world! At Allure Magazine everyone looked like that’s exactly, i knew i was going to have the time of my life.

If you could only read one magazine for the rest of your life what would it be and why?

Oh well you’re killing me here being a collector of magazines this is the most hardest question haha. I might have to go with W magazine because their spreads are mind blowing amazing and I am more of a visual person, my god those fashion spreads are beautiful to say the least.

Your story is truly inspiring to a lot of people, how does it feel to have a following?

It’s amazing and I honestly never thought that this would happen to me, you know I’m just a girl who really loves the fashion industry and I just want to work somewhere that I love. The feedback from people have just been beautiful, they give me the energy to keep going and continue this beautiful journey.

Where do you see yourself ten years from now?

Oh boy 10 years thats a long time haha that would mean that I would be 36. Hopefully I will still be alive and well in a beautiful apt, working in my spankin new office and probably adopting 10 dogs :)

Do you have any future projects or collaborations you’re excited about?

I do have a few projects that I am extremely excited about. We are going to start to work on issues 7 which is always an amazing experience and I am really excited about doing these photo shoots and directing them.

Who are some of your favorite designers?

Tom Ford, Valentino, Oscar de la Renta, Alice + Olivia, Alexander McQueen, Jean Paul Gaultier, Balmain, and Lanvin.

What’s a typical day like for Jillian?

Jillian never has a typical day haha there is just a lot of email checking and organizational skills being involved every day

Who’s your icon?

People might literally be extremely tired of me saying that I look up to Grace Connington so much. She is a huge inspiration to me and well hopefully one day will follow her footsteps.

What keeps you inspired?

My friends and family, they have always been extremely supportive of me. Having people who push you harder and support you is the most amazing feeling and I have that so it inspires me to keep going.

A Collected Interview
Shanell Grant of NaturallyNellzy
My name is Shanell aka NaturallyNellzy and I’m an avid natural hair fanatic and vlogger. I’m studying psychology and sociology and will be receiving my B.A. Degree this spring (2013) I love fashion, makeup and anything fun and edgy.

What inspired you to become a blogger?

I would have to say that my inspiration came from all of the lovely ladies on youtube and on other forms on social media. I saw how much fun and freedom that they all had and I wanted to experience that same freedom. I would also have to say that it comes from my mother as well because she was actually the person that pushed me to upload my first video and I thank her dearly for that =)

What inspired your brand, NaturallyNellzy?

I actually came up with the name before I was natural and actually named my Tumblr blog the exact same name. “Naturally” came from my personality and how comfortable I am with myself and around others. “Nellzy” is my nickname among my peers on PSN (PlayStation Network) and I figured that combining the two things that I loved would be awesome and that’s how I got “NaturallyNellzy”.

There are some many blogger living in NYC how do you separate yourself from others?

Well I think the thing that separates me from the rest of the bloggers is probably due to the fact that I’m such a unique individual and don’t really follow trends or what other people are doing. I like to try different things spontaneously, even if there’s a chance that it may turn out to be a complete flop lol. I like to have a lot of fun on my channel and do things that make me smile because this truly is one of my favorite hobbies and I believe it shows in my videos.

Speaking of NYC, How much does it inspire you as a person?

NYC is such a great place, but to be completely honest I still haven’t discovered all of it. I feel like there is so much to explore and discover and the mystery of what is next to come in life is what truly inspires me.

What’s your definition of style?

If I had to describe my style in one word I would choose versatile. I never try to wear the same thing twice and I’m always finding new ways to reinvent my look. One day you may see me with a big curly fro, comfy leggings, uggs and a sweat shirt and then very next day you’ll see me in a bodycon dress, pumps and a sleek bun. You’ll never know what’s next lol.

What season do you feel like your style is at its highest level?

Autumn/fall! I absolutely LOVE this season out of them all because this is the time when I get to play around in my wardrobe and experiment with layering, darker colors and footwear. Gotta love fall.
How can you blog and videos  help women when it comes to Beauty, Fashion and Natural Hair?

I think that my videos can help women in these areas because when I record I try and give my personal accounts on what works for me rather then preach and tell others what to do. By using this method of sharing I feel like it gives women the chance to think for themselves about how they can attribute my info/experiences into their own lives and create an outcome that they can relate to.

How did it feel to be how have such a huge following on tumblr and youtube.

I’m actually still surprised that my numbers have grown so much to be honest lol. I initially made my channel to document my hair journey so that I could look back on it and see the progress that I made in my journey. To look at my numbers now and see how far I’ve come is an amazing feeling. Not because of the publicity, but mainly for the amazing community that I’ve grown to love. I’ve met some amazing people online and you wouldn’t believe the astonishing support that I was shown throughout my journey from these people. I definitely love and appreciate everyone in my following and I hope to make new friends as my numbers continue to grow.

Where do you see yourself in ten years?

I see myself still making youtube videos, with a head full of natural, healthy and luscious hair. Fully completed with furthering my education, possibly the owner of a small business, happy with life and looking for new ways to reinvent myself.

What’s your favorite way to style your hair?

I have two favorite styles that always turn out great and they would be my high puff/bun and my flat twists.

When it comes to makeup and hair products what brands do you trust the most?

When it comes to makeup my favorite brands are NYX, NYC, Wet & Wild and Coastal Scents. My top brands of hair products are Cantu Shea Butter and Shea Moisture.

What tips for women looking to take better care of their hair?

Create a hair regimen, keep your hair moisturized, deep condition and avoid frequent direct heat.

How do you feel about the increase in women going natural?

I think it’s awesome and I definitely love it. Natural hair has always been an awesome conversation starter and has helped me to meet a lot of new and interesting people. I also feel like it shows that women are confident with wearing their natural hair and it also helps to decrease the stigma associated with natural hair as well.

Can you tell me about one of your worst hair days?

Ohhhh yea lol. It was a Monday and this is usually when I’m on campus until 9:15 at night so it’s safe to say that this is my long day during the week. So I get out of the library and realize that it started snowing while I was indoors and I rush to my next class and pray that it will stop by the time I get out. WRONG! By the time my class is over there is now slush and water all over the floor and I have to make the commute home with NO umbrella. So it’s bad enough that my hair is starting to puff up because of the humidity, but all the snow/rain is now causing the product in my hair to look white and slimly as if the product is melting. To make matters worse it’s all running down my face, so I’m walking around with a mess on my head and a greasy and shiny face to go along with it. It was soooo embarrassing taking the bus ride home and then having to walk in the rain and snow again lol. That would have to be my absolute worst hair day.

What keeps you inspired?

The future keeps me inspired because there is always room to grow and I always look forward to seeing what’s the next endeavor that I will embark on.
